Local-first
Your data lives on your Mac and works without anybody’s server.
What it means
A local-first app keeps its data and its logic on your machine. Network calls are the exception you initiate — a weather fetch, an integration you connected — not the substrate the app runs on.
Why it matters
Local-first is the difference between an app and a subscription to an app. It is why notchos keeps working on a plane, why it is fast, and why “no telemetry” can be a structural fact rather than a policy promise.
How notchos does it
Settings, notes, clipboard history, habits, and scratchpad live under your own Application Support directory. The only requests the app makes are the ones you connected yourself, plus license activation.
Fair questions
- Which features need the network?
- Weather, Markets, Feeds, Translate, and whichever integrations you connect. Everything else is fully offline.
- Where exactly is my data?
- Under ~/Library/Application Support/Notchos/ on your Mac — inspectable, yours, and included in your own backups.
