Resting pill
The collapsed, at-rest shape a notch app shows when its panel is closed.
What it means
A resting pill is the small, fully-rounded object sitting inside the notch at all times — the idle state of a notch app. It is the difference between “an app that can use my notch” and “an app that lives there”: something is always visible, and it is always quiet.
Why it matters
The resting state decides whether a notch app is a delight or an annoyance. Too busy and you learn to look away from it; too empty and there was no point. The good resting pill shows one thing, chosen by you, readable at a glance from across the room.
How notchos does it
The pill carries one live activity of your choosing and settles back into it whenever the panel closes. It hides in fullscreen for presentations, and it hides from screenshots and screen sharing entirely when capture hiding is on.
Fair questions
- Does the pill do anything on its own?
- It shows your chosen live activity, ticks its clock or bars, and waits. Opening anything is always your move — hover or click.
- Can the pill be completely empty?
- You choose what it carries; a minimal clock is the classic choice for people who want presence without noise.
