Glossary
Verbatim mode
Per-app dictation that skips cleanup so shell commands survive.
What it means
Verbatim mode disables the rewriting passes — filler removal, number and punctuation fixes — for apps you designate, keeping spoken symbols and spacing exactly as said. Terminal is the canonical case: git checkout --force must not be “corrected” into prose.
Why it matters
Dictation for writers and dictation for terminals are different products sharing an engine. A mode switch is how one tool serves both without embarrassing itself in either.
How notchos does it
A per-app verbatim list with Terminal on by default. Spoken symbol commands and snippets stay on even in verbatim mode, because those are the words you meant.
Fair questions
- Do spoken commands work in verbatim mode?
- Yes — symbols, emoji names, and snippets are always on; only the rewrites pause.
- Can any app be added to the list?
- Yes, by app — editors and terminals are the usual suspects.
