Glossary · also: tiling zones
Window snap
Drag a window against the notch and tiling zones place it.
What it means
Window snap extends the drag-a-window-to-an-edge gesture to the top of the screen: bring a window against the notch and zones appear — halves, quarters — and releasing places the window in one.
Why it matters
It is the same reflex Windows taught and macOS never fully adopted, added to the one screen edge that is always unobstructed. It needs the Accessibility grant precisely because simulating placement is a system-level act.
How notchos does it
Off by default until you grant Accessibility — nothing happens without your say-so — and implemented through the Accessibility API with no hardcoded screen sizes.
Fair questions
- Why is it off by default?
- It needs the Accessibility permission, and permission-grabbing features should wait to be asked for.
- Does it fight Stage Manager or Spaces?
- It places windows, it does not manage them — the window stays where it was put, in whichever space you put it in.
